Report on AIDS Vaccine Published

Washington, D.C., December 21, 2005—The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative announced the release of its October 2005 publication on the economic impact of a global AIDS vaccine. The report, Estimating the Global Impact of an AIDS Vaccine, finds that a moderately effective HIV/AIDS vaccine could have a significant impact on new HIV infections, leading to a reduction of 30 percent. The document emphasizes the importance of supporting vaccination with existing HIV prevention methods, including education and condom promotion, to maximize the effects of the combined efforts. The report was written by John Stover, senior fellow at Futures Group, a Constella company.
