Susan Acker-Walsh Named "Woman Extraordinaire"

DURHAM, N.C., Dec. 14, 2004—Susan Acker-Walsh, chief executive for Corporate Development at Constella Group, was among 10 Triangle region business women honored as a "Woman Extraordinaire" in the Dec. issue of Business Leader magazine.

"I feel very fortunate to be in the same category with so many impressive women," said Acker-Walsh, "It is definitely a great honor."

Eighty-five nominations were reviewed by a panel of four judges. The nominees' names and the names of their companies were left blank to make the judging objective. The judges selected 10 of the 85 to receive the prestigious title. In addition to being featured in the magazine, the women were honored at a gala event at the Cardinal Club in Raleigh.

A consistent theme shared by all of the honorees was a commitment to more than just work. Acker-Walsh balances her work and family life, and still finds a way to help out in the community. She makes meals for the homeless, mentors young people and future business leaders, and plans next year to volunteer at United Church of Chapel Hill.

As chief executive for Corporate Development, Acker-Walsh works to build and implement strategies for Constella's future growth. An MBA graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, she has earned numerous awards throughout her career; including the 2002 UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Alumni Merit Award, the 2001 Governor's Award as an Outstanding Entrepreneur and the 2001 Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award.
