Constella Health Sciences Re-wins $38 Million CDMRP Peer Review Services Contract

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 8, 2004—Constella Health Sciences, a business unit of Constella Group, has re-won its peer review services contract with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command's (USAMRMC) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). The contract is valued at $38 million and has a two-year base period plus three option years.

"Our CDMRP contract is strategically important to our future of becoming a preeminent organization, to continuing to establish Constella as a premier provider of scientific peer review services and to making a global impact on human health," said Chris LeGrand, president of Constella Health Sciences.

As part of its work on the contract, the business will continue to oversee strategic planning of scientific peer review for a number of health-related research topics, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and neurofibromatosis. The business' work also involves receiving and tracking peer review applications throughout the peer review process, recruiting nationally recognized scientists and researchers as reviewers for peer review panels, and assigning proposals for review.

In addition, Health Sciences prepares summary statements that include the assigned peer reviewers' critiques and peer review panel comments and scores. These statements help agency administrators make important funding decisions. The business also coordinates travel arrangements and oversees conference meeting and management for reviewers.

"As one of our long-term clients, CDMRP has provided us with a solid foundation to help us achieve our vision of enhancing human health," said Donald A. Holzworth, Constella Group CEO. "I am extremely proud of the contributions we make on behalf of CDMRP to help those affected by cancer and other life-threatening diseases."

Health Sciences has provided scientific peer review services on behalf of CDMRP since 1995, managing the receipt and review of more than 25,000 scientific research proposals. Health Sciences built PēRMIS, a peer review information management system that scores and records all proposals at peer review panels. PēRMIS facilitates and expedites workflow to support peer review activities.

Employees supporting the CDMRP contract range from 30-100 and are based in Constella's Bethesda and Frederick, Md., offices.
