Constella Group Contributes More Than $22,000 to Benefit
Leukemia and Lymphoma Research
DURHAM, N.C., June 16, 2004Constella Group's employees, clients and vendors raised more than $22,000 to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (TLLS) during the company's recent eight-week volunteer fundraising campaign. The money will go toward life-saving research and technologies to help thousands who suffer from blood-related cancers.
Constella's contribution was large enough to earn Donald A. Holzworth, chief executive officer, the organization's "Man of the Year" award. Holzworth accepted the award at the TLLS banquet May 21 at the North Raleigh Hilton.
"Our employees and business partners generously donated their time and money to make this campaign a success," said Don. "The money we raised goes directly toward research to find cures for blood-related cancers. As an organization whose vision is completely focused on 'enhancing human health,' it was great to leave a legacy of giving back to those who need our help."
At the banquet, TLLS announced that it had raised $52,000 in its first-year "Man and Woman of the Year" fundraising drive, more than double its $23,000 goal. Constella solicited $8,700 in donations from corporate clients and vendors and matched dollar for dollar each staff contribution up to $5,000. Constella's 17-member fundraising committee incorporated events such as "Buy a License to Wear Jeans" and "Bake It and Bank It Fridays," where staff members sold baked goods each Friday. In addition, each corporate office held a benefit luncheon, and the company auctioned items such as an autographed football, baseball and golf packages, and an iPOD. These activities, in addition to other employee donations, added $8,639.61 to the company's first corporate giving program.
Attending the "Man and Woman of the Year" event was three-year-old Kayla Moreno, the child whom Constella sponsored. Kayla has acute lymphocytic leukemia and is being treated at UNC Hospital. Devin Ganhoe, a seven-year-old with acute lymphocytic leukemia, also attended the event.
Brenda Levine, director of human resources for EMC Corporation, won "Woman of the Year" honors. The News and Observer (Raleigh, N.C.) and USA Today will feature Constella and other participating companies in upcoming editions.
