Constella Health Strategies to Present at East and West Coast BIO Seminars
DURHAM, N.C., March 23, 2004—Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO),
an international industry organization, has invited consultants from Constella
Health Strategies to speak at two upcoming seminars on "Market Development and
Reimbursement."
Practice leaders Karla Stricker Anderson and Bill Broderick will present as faculty at the seminars, to be held March 25-26 in San Diego and April 12-13 in Boston. Constella Health Strategies is also a seminar sponsor.
Constella experts will talk about ways that life sciences companies can influence favorable reimbursement by third parties and how to use data and evidence to build a compelling value proposition for payers.
"We are pleased to work with BIO to help companies develop a keener understanding of the various market forces affecting their products and how they can leverage data and other intelligence to become more successful," said Stricker Anderson.
"This is a very timely topic," added Broderick. "Faced with large product pipelines and strained budgets, biotech companies that launch new drugs today must find ways to overcome significant market hurdles. One way to do that is to apply a more rigorous focus on demonstrating and proving economics and overall value."
The BIO seminars are designed to provide industry leadersincluding CEOs, chief medical officers and marketing professionalswith the tools and decision-making framework they need to employ product development strategies that factor in the current reimbursement environment. Agenda items will include:
- The current political and economic environment in the US as it relates to reimbursements
- Constraints and requirements of all payer sources including Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance
- Specific reimbursement requirements related to the nature of the product or service under development, e.g. PBM requirements for drugs
- The evolving role of the self-pay patient and consumer market
- The critical role that providers, particularly physicians, play in reimbursement decisions
- Identification of tools to be used to model market development and reimbursement formulae
- Guides to additional information and resources to successfully maximize reimbursement levels
- Case studies of both successful and unsuccessful reimbursement initiatives
According to BIO, up to 80 percent of revenue for a growing life science company will be derived through third-party reimbursement. "By bringing healthcare industry leaders with expertise in managing reimbursement requirements as part of the development process, BIO hopes to provide a comprehensive view not only from the provider/payer communities, but also the vendors and supplier side," BIO stated in a brochure.
