Press ReleasesASI Hires Vice President for Health AffairsATLANTA, GA., Nov. 9, 2002—Analytical Sciences, Inc., (ASI) has hired a nationally known expert in the field of public health to focus on client relations. Andrew Friede, MD, MPH, has accepted a newly created position at ASI as vice president for health affairs. "This is a very significant hire for ASI," said CEO and President Donald Holzworth. "Dr. Friede is a well-known thought leader in public health informatics. I have known him for more than 14 years and am confident that he will provide outstanding leadership to ASI in areas directly related to our vision of enhancing human health." Prior to joining ASI, Friede was a physician executive with the Cerner Corp., a leading provider of clinical and management information systems and services to the health-care industry worldwide. He focused on developing collaborative research products with Cerner clients to evaluate the impact of information systems in improving health. Before his employment with Cerner, he served as a medical officer in the Commissioned Officer Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. His service included a tour as chief of the Public Health Information Systems Branch, where he led the design, development and implementation of the CDC WONDER, an integrated information and communications system that supports all aspects of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) mission. In his final tour in the Public Health Service, he served as special assistant to the director, Public Health Practice Program Office. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank and the UN for public health and clinical information systems in China and Madagascar. He is the author of numerous publications and served as the chief editor of the CDC Prevention Guidelines. Friede is an elected fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and holds a Master's of Public Health from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University. Through its presence in Atlanta, ASI serves many high-profile federal clients, including its largest client, the CDC. ASI has worked with the CDC since 1991, supporting 32 contracts and 110 task orders. ASI was recently named as a subcontractor on the CDC's $511 million, seven-year Information Technology Systems (CITS) contract awarded to TRW Inc.
