ASI Ranks No. 4 Among Triangle's Fast 50 Companies

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 7, 2002—In its highest ranking yet, Analytical Sciences, Inc., (ASI) earned the No. 4 spot as one of the fastest growing private companies in the Triangle, based on percentage revenue growth and dollar growth of revenue over the past three years.

ASI was recognized as the region's fourth fastest growing private company in this year's ninth annual Triangle Fast 50 Awards ceremony, held Nov. 6 at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. This marks the sixth year that ASI has been recognized as an award winner, which put ASI in the elite Fast 50 Hall of Fame List with 29 other repeat winners. ASI, which now has 550 employees, ranked 22 in the 2001 Triangle Fast 50; 39 in 2000; 38 in 1999; 49 in 1998; and 18 in 1995.

"It is a great achievement to be recognized once again as a fast-growth company," said Chris LeGrand, ASI's Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. "To be ranked fourth is a great accomplishment for ASI, and I want to thank all ASI employees for their contributions to growing our company."

ASI reported several successes during the past year, which contributed to its growth. They include:

  • Winning a competitive $23 million, seven-year contract from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to support the institute's public health initiatives with a wide range of information technology (IT) services and solutions.
  • Acquiring United Information Services (UIS), which added about 150 employees to ASI's nationwide work force and expanded its science and technology services. Annual revenues jumped to more than $40 million.
  • Forming a joint venture with Origin Pharmaceutical Services Limited, a privately owned UK contract research organization with a strong focus on clinical project management and regulatory affairs.
  • Launching a subsidiary called MedNeticsTM LLC, a new biosurveillance technology services company dedicated to helping leverage a wide range of health research data for the world's biopharmaceutical industry.

Among the other top five winners were from No. 1-3, TogetherSoft, Burt's Bees Inc. and Alliance of Professionals & Consultants Inc., and No. 5, Art.com.

PricewaterhouseCoopers sponsored The Triangle Fast 50 Award in conjunction with The Business Journal of Raleigh, N.C. To be eligible for the competition, companies must be privately held, have completed three full fiscal years of operation by June 30, 2002, have at least $3 million in revenue in 2001 and be headquartered in the Triangle.
