ASI Executive to Speak About HIV/AIDS on American Embassy TV Network

SILVER SPRING, Md., April 30, 2002—A top executive from Analytical Sciences, Inc. (ASI), has been invited to be a special guest today on the American Embassy TV Network's (AETN) live interactive "Dialogue" program.
Jesse Milan, Jr., J.D., vice president of ASI's Silver Spring-based health communications division, will be part of a dialogue on "HIV/AIDS: Counseling, Education and Care by Faith-Based Organizations" to be aired today from 10 until 11 a.m. Milan will join the Rev. John McCullough, executive director at the Church World Services, Inc., in a discussion with representatives of three African countries for the live, one-hour broadcast.
AETN is the global television service of the U.S. Department of State. Its "Dialogue" programs are broadcast daily via satellite to American embassies and consulates around the world to give American experts and policy-makers an opportunity to speak with foreign audiences about different topics.
"This is a great honor for ASI and for Jesse," said ASI President and CEO Donald A. Holzworth. "Jesse's dedication to the issues affecting people with HIV/AIDS is an inspiration to all of us at ASI who are working hard to enhance human health."
In addition to overseeing ASI's health communications division, Milan directs one of the company's largest contracts, which collects, disseminates and develops health information and materials on the prevention of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, diabetes, tuberculosis and other diseases. This contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) involves operating the National Prevention Information Network (NPIN). The NPIN is the world's most comprehensive resource service center providing information on these topics to constituents around the world.
Milan has spent most of his adult professional and personal life in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Earlier this year, Milan launched ASI's project to develop a national HIV/AIDS, STD and TB Information Resource Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. ASI's health communications division is providing international support to design, develop and maintain the information resource center under its CDC-NPIN contract, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs.
In 2001, Milan also traveled to Africa to share his expertise on HIV/AIDS upon the request of the U.S. State Department. The State Department's Speakers Program sends Americans with different expertise to Africa to speak directly to various leaders.
In addition, he was named Co-Chair of the HIV/AIDS Advisory Committee of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The 14-member committee advises the secretary of Health and Human Services and the director of HRSA on the federal government's response to HIV/AIDS treatment and care needs. Its members include physicians, social workers, public health administrators, representatives of community-based organizations and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Milan has served in all levels of the HIV-service continuum, including health department co-chair of the Philadelphia Community Planning Group, chair of the Philadelphia Ryan White Title I Planning Council, and president of three nationally recognized AIDS service organizations. Before joining ASI in 1997, he was director of the AIDS Office for the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health. He holds an undergraduate degree in public and international affairs from Princeton University and a law degree from New York University School of Law.
