Zimbabwe AIDS Policy and Advocacy Project (ZAPA)
Constella Futures provided project management and technical assistance towards the achievement of the Intermediate Results-2 under USAID/Zimbabwe's Strategic Objective - mitigating the HIV/AIDS crisis, "Enhanced Capacity to Conduct Advocacy and Implement Policy to Prevent HIV Transmission and Mitigate Impact at the National Level." This USAID-funded Zimbabwe AIDS Policy and Advocacy Project (ZAPA) recently came to an end after five years of successful program implementation. USAID | Zimbabwe designed the ZAPA Project to promote two key ideas—“Break the Silence” and “Leadership is Key.”
From February 2002 to February 2006, Constella
Futures implemented a range of activities to provide much-needed information
on HIV/AIDS to policymakers and to stimulate public discussion on HIV/AIDS in
Zimbabwe. Working with nongovernmental and private organizations, ZAPA assisted
in workplace and institutional policy development that was designed to guide
organizations as they formulated their own HIV/AIDS-related activities. Constella
Futures supported education and advocacy activities within the project's
partner institutions, and for the people and groups the partners worked with.
ZAPA was organized around five HIV/AIDS themes:
- Women's empowerment
- Youth
- Stigma and discrimination
- Orphans and vulnerable children, and
- Reproductive health
Project services included a large grants program, wide-ranging technical assistance, training, policy workshops, and data generating studies. Constella Futures met and exceeded USAID expectations for performance by the end of this project.
