Niger Social Marketing of Condoms
Condom usage is currently low in Niger, mainly due to
limited availability, low awareness of sexual health risks
and of the protection offered by condoms, and suspicion
of the product, including fear that the condom will break
or reduce pleasure.
To address these issues, the Social Marketing of Condoms
Project aims to increase condom awareness, encourage usage,
and improve HIV knowledge, in order to reduce the incidence
of HIV and prevent unwanted pregnancies. The project is
targeted at the general population of Niger, but places
particular emphasis on the most vulnerable groups, such
as sex workers, young people, transport workers, the military,
and security forces. The intention is to make condoms more
affordable and accessible to the Nigerien public by creating
and promoting a new brand of condom, called Le Visa.
The Social Marketing of Condoms Project in Niger is funded
by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Constella
Futures is implementing the program in conjunction with
GFA Medica.
