Healthy Russia 2020

Healthy Russia 2020 focuses on three program areas - prevention of HIV, improvement of maternal and child health, and reduction of youth risk behaviors. As an integral component of USAID/Russia's HIV prevention strategy, Healthy Russia 2020 directly contributes to the prevention of HIV in selected regions of the Russian Federation, Ivanova, Orenburg, Saratov, and Irkutsk oblasts.

As a subcontractor to John Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs, Constella Futures, in cooperation with CEDPA, is implementing two interrelated project components: building HIV advocacy networks, and gathering and analyzing HIV health accounts.

By building the knowledge base and strengthening advocacy and awareness-raising skills of civil society, including people living with HIV, Constella Futures technical assistance helps empower the civil sector to advocate for needed policy change in the Russian Federation. In addition, advocacy networks provide a forum for civil society to gather and share information in order to perform its key “watch dog” function of ensuring that programs meet the needs of communities and funds are being used effectively to fight HIV.

To complement the advocacy activity, Constella Futures is assembling the best available information on public and private sources and uses of funds committed to address the health and social services needs generated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Aside from using the data as basic materials for advocacy for more effective health policies, the collected HIV accounts information will help inform policy recommendations about what services merit priority attention and how to assure that oblast governments get maximum value for their HIV/AIDS spending.

Healthy Russia 2020 is funded by USAID and is implemented by John Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs, Constella Futures, and CEDPA.
