Ghana SHARP
Ghana's HIV epidemic has been consistently lower than
most other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This provides
opportunities for well-targeted interventions to reduce
new infections and control the spread of HIV. SHARP provides
an evidence- and researched-based approach to identifying
Ghana's most-at-risk groups, understanding their needs and
developing targeted interventions based on these results.
The project has four interrelated goals:
- Conducting and supporting operations research and second-generation
surveillance to guide evidence-based HIV programming.
- Supporting establishment and expansion of interventions
among most-at-risk groups and in high transmission areas.
- Assisting in strengthening capacities of the national
response at all levels.
- Gathering, maintaining, and ensuring HIV program information
and results reporting is integrated with the government
of Ghana's HIV/AIDS program.
Constella Futures coordinates the research portfolio.
SHARP is funded by USAID/Ghana and is implemented by
the Academy for Educational Development, in partnership
with Constella Futures and Catholic Relief Services.
