Selected Projects
Support for the Statistical & Data Analysis of Regional Air Quality Modeling ResultsClient: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) The EPA has created the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model - a massive environmental model which describes the transport and deposition of air pollutants across the United States - for purposes of studying the effects of regulatory strategies and changing emission levels. This particular model focuses on acid rain. Constella provides statistical expertise and data analysis in support of this program model. Constella's role is to receive point estimates (measurement data) of depositions across the US, average or "smooth" the estimates across locations, and return the aggregated estimates to the EPA along with GIS-produced maps of depositions. Constella also provides software development support for the programs used to perform the estimate smoothing. These programs will ultimately be offered to the research community to extend the availability of the national model to other researchers. While the focus of the work for this particular contract is around acid rain, Constella has supported a series of contracts with the EPA, for similar work, since 1991. Kent County Michigan - Prevention Initiative Evaluation ProjectClient: Kent County, Michigan, Health Department In 2006, Constella began to support the Kent County, Michigan, Health Department. The Kent County Prevention Initiative is designed to create sustained improvements in the health and well-being of the Kent County population by establishing prevention programs in the areas of child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and primary prevention family support. By creating a healthier population, the initiative aims to reduce the social and financial burdens on education, health care, and justice systems in Kent County. For the project, Constella is conducting both short and long-term evaluations of the four programs, which make up The Kent County Prevention Initiative (two are focused on primary prevention family support) to determine the effectiveness of each program individually, as well as their collective impact on the citizens of Kent County. |
