Public Health Preparedness — Featured NewsStewart Simonson, Constella's Vice President for Global Public Health Preparedness, co-authored an article that appeared in the July issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases, a peer-reviewed journal published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Infectious Diseases. The article outlines a new US government emergency preparedness program derived from the Project BioShield Act of 2004. Called Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), the program allows the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize the use of unapproved drugs or medical devices in the event of a public or military health emergency. According to the article, EUA's purpose is to ensure the timely availability of the best possible medical treatments - regardless of government approval status - to both military personnel and civilians in broad-scale emergency situations. Read the article, titled, "Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to Enable Use of Needed Products in Civilian and Military Emergencies, United States," (PDF). |
